CORONA EMERGENCY AID PROJECT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CARE GERMANY
The Corona pandemic is exacerbating the already difficult humanitarian situation in slum areas. This makes the implementation of the project in Korogocho (Kenya), which is supported by the Intalcon Foundation, not easy now. In a conversation with CARE Germany, we got the latest information about the current status.
In order to respond to the difficult situation in the best possible way and to support the residents of Korogocho in their fight against the spread of the virus, the following Corona emergency measures are currently being implemented:
INSTALLATION OF WATER CONTAINERS
CARE Deutschland has put the water containers at numerous locations for regular water supply in the community. This helps in WASH (Water, Sanitation & hygiene) initiative, which prepares the community in their fight against COVID19. Water containers are also installed in schools so that students can get regular supply of water within school premises. Along with that, Hand sanitizers soaps are also distributed in schools which directly helps in maintaining hygiene and prevention of covid19. This initiative supports the ‘Education for All’ global goal.
DISTRIBUTION OF HYGIENE PRODUCTS AND FACE MASKS
CARE Deutschland are distributing face masks and sanitization products within the community so that COVID19 prevention measure can be put into place. This initiative supports the ‘Health & Well-being’ global goal.
DISTRIBUTION OF MENSTRUAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS
Menstrual hygiene is stigmatized in Korogocho community. During their periods, young girls have to miss their schools due to unaffordability of menstrual hygiene products. CARE Deutschland distributed menstrual hygiene products to the young girls in Korogocho community. In this way, this initiative supports SDG4 (Quality Education) and SDG5 (Gender Equality) of Global goals.
CARE's entire project is scheduled up to and including 2023. However, the action plan for this is not binding due to Covid19 restrictions and measures in place in the country. Updates will be determined and communicated by volunteers on the ground. (Financial) support is always welcome.
