With more than twenty years navigating capital markets, Michael has built a career defined by deep analytical insight and strategic foresight. As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of DeFi Advisors, he leads an independent investment advisory firm specializing in capital markets, capital raisings, M&A, and digital asset consulting. Currently, Michael holds positions on the investment committees of two family offices and one major corporation, where he also contributes to their M&A strategies. Furthermore, he is an esteemed member of the Hellenic Business Angels Network (HeBAN). Globally, he has invested in numerous startups and is frequently sought after for expert opinions on prominent podcasts, including Real Vision, Wealthion, On The Margin at Blockworks, and Hidden Forces hosted by Demetri Kofinas. Over the last four years, Michael has delved deep into blockchain and cryptocurrency, recognizing their genuine utility and potential, leading him to make astute investments in the sector. His unique ability to communicate how the traditional economic system can benefit from blockchain technologies with real-life applications gives him an edge in bridging the old and the new. Before his current endeavors, Michael was the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer at Appletree Capital, an independent FCA-regulated investment firm in London, renowned for its Global Macro and Emerging Market investments. Michael's vast experience spans across trading and analyzing both developed and emerging markets. He also maintains a Substack publication where he shares his views on various issues, with a primary focus on global macro trends, market dynamics, and how emerging technologies might have profound effects on how the world is shaping. With two decades of experience in public and private markets, Michael demonstrates a well-rounded grasp of the dynamics of both liquid and illiquid investments, adeptly navigating the ever-shifting global macroeconomic landscape. Moreover, having lived through the years across cities such as Boston, New York, Washington, London, Milan, and Athens, Michael has obtained a comprehensive perspective on cultural adaptations and how these affect political and, as a consequence, investment shifts. His rich academic background, marked by dual degrees, gives him a unique perspective to interpret current financial developments within historical frameworks. Michael's educational journey commenced in 1999 at Boston University, where he obtained a BA with a double major in Economics and International Relations, complemented by a Minor in Business Administration. In 2003, he received an MS in Economics and Management from SDA Bocconi, specializing in Finance. Currently, Michael divides his time between Athens and London.
